A Monstrosity!

Sometimes we all just have to let that monster inside out. For that, we have this lovely song! (:

Monster by Skillet (http://youtu.be/1mjlM_RnsVE)

This Christian rock band from Tennessee released Monster on their eighth studio album, which was certified as a gold album in July of 2010. The song in particular also reached the top forty on several charts as soon as it debuted!

Neurotic

Sometimes weird songs just take the cake. That's definitely the case with this song.

Euro Neuro by Rambo Amadeus (http://youtu.be/0dxze0t7A2s)

This crazy sounding rhyming beat comes to us from Montenegro and has been announced as their entry into the Eurovision Song Contest coming up on May 22. There's just something about this guy's strange charisma that I like, don't you?

The First Seventeen!

If you remember, the whole point of this blog is to introduce everyone to new songs and new cultures and etc. through the various songs that I post here. Because of that, I feel that it's more than necessary to give a compilation from time to time of these great songs!

So, this is it! The first seventeen songs that I've posted here in a nice little handy playlist!

Give Me Some Good Apples

I like starting off my morning with some good beats. Of course those beats then usually get stuck in my head for the rest of the day and I end up cursing them. But hey, its the price you pay for good music!

Bad Apple Touhou (http://youtu.be/VzEUeWnV73U)

This video and song was originally produced by the Touhou Project, a group dedicated to making animations and games set in the land of Gensokyo. I'm not sure what all goes on in these games, but being such a big gamer, I'll probably check it out later. :P

This video in particular is actually a remake of the original in plain black and white. Or maybe its the other way around..there's a little debate on that one and I haven't been able to figure it out. I personally think it has more impact in black and white, but that's just my opinion. Either way its a great song!

All Safe & Sound

This is a little tribute to two things:
1) My girlfriend because she absolutely loves Taylor Swift.
2) The now famous Hunger Games!
So here you go!

Safe & Sound by Taylor Swift (http://youtu.be/nhdNG_ebbTg)

In case you've been out of the loop, Taylor Swift is a nice young country singer coming out of Pennsylvania. Ever since her really big break in 2006, she has been more than crushing the charts throughout the world. She also became the youngest artist ever to win a Grammy for Album of the Year in 2010. There's no hiding that she is one talented lady! ;)

This song in particular is included on the soundtrack for the movie The Hunger Games based off of the best-selling book by Suzanne Collins. Unfortunately for many fans, like me, the song didn't show up until the credits. But that's okay, its still great!

We All "Need" Some Creativity

Now for a lesson in true creativity with none other than OK Go!

Needing/Getting (http://youtu.be/MejbOFk7H6c)

It's hard to escape the fact that this is obviously an advertising scheme by Chevy for their new model, the Sonic, but hey, they're playing music with a car! What can be better than that??

That aside, one must try to comprehend the immensity of the project. They used hundreds, yes hundreds of guitars, barrels, piping, and etc. to make this project happen. Not to mention the two to three weeks worth of time spent setting up and tuning the objects in order to match the exact notes of the song. Studio version here: (http://youtu.be/9WM4v8m2zUQ)

So, guys of OK Go, I applaud you and your amazing creativity!

Magical Dubstep?

I've got something interesting here for you today. Well, I think so at least!

Runnin' by Cutline ft. Belle Humble (http://youtu.be/xYc9orO98fE)

Now, being a somewhat unheard of song and band, it was kinda hard to find very much info on them. But here's some stuff that I was able to find!

Turns out Cutline is a group that was formed in 2010 by a couple of childhood friends, Dan Wilberforce and Jeryl Wilton, in Bristol, England. Since their start, they've been dropping their hot dubstep beats to an ever growing fanbase. In this particular venture, they brought in another British gal, Belle Humble, to provide some killer vocals, if I do say so myself. ;-P

But it's the video that gets me. It brings about an "OMG" moment when the nice, innocent victimized Little Red Riding Hood all of the sudden goes BANG!! Strange beastmode moment there I'd say.

Do I Know You?

I'm afraid I don't know you. But don't worry, after this song is done I will. Not to mention we'll all be expert body painters!

Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye (http://youtu.be/8UVNT4wvIGY)

Now first off, I'm pretty sure you're like me and are wondering "how in God's sake am I supposed to pronounce that name!?" Here's your answer: "Gotye" is derived and pronounced the same way as the French "Gautier" (Gaw-tee-ay or Got-yay). There, not so bad huh?

This Belgian born Australian released this big hit on his third studio album, Making Mirrors, in July of 2011 and it soon reached #1 in several European countries as well as Australia.

I'm Not Sure I Have an Answer to That

What is love? You could spend a lifetime trying to answer that one question.
Or you could just jam to the song that asks it for you! (:

What is Love by Haddaway (http://youtu.be/c1LG5E55II8)

I always get pulled to this classic song from the 90s. It has that nice flavor of nostalgia to it that I love. Not to mention the nice eurodance beat!

The hit What is Love was released by the Trinidadian-German singer Haddaway in May of 1993 and quickly topped the charts in thirteen countries. With good reason, don't you think?

I say we need a little bit of technopop for lunch!

Parlez-vous Freezepop? by Freezepop (http://youtu.be/kqZLbXjkRbQ)

Freezepop is an electropop/synthpop band based in Boston and they have contributed quite a few songs to certain +Harmonix Music Systems titles such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero. I love playing those by the way. ;P

PonPonPon by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (http://youtu.be/yzC4hFK5P3g)

On the other hand, it does seem to be pretty catchy..hmm. And I was able to dig up a Wikipedia article on it.

Fire by 2NE1 (http://youtu.be/Cwq-XdPfpeA)

2NE1, pronounced "twenty-one" or "to anyone", is a South Korean hip-hop group that got its start in 2009 with this debut song. Since then, they have definitely taken off, becoming very popular in Japan and recently the U.S.

Old School with Real McCoy

Okay I'm gonna start off the day with a little something to get our hearts pumping! ;P

Another Night by the German eurodance group, Real McCoy (http://youtu.be/Pav2f4b-1ZE)

Another Night was one of two of the group's hit singles to reach the Top 40 worldwide and this song in particular stayed there for a good forty weeks.

By now you're all probably like "Why is this Asian dude always posting these random old songs that are always in English?? Didn't the page say something about worldwide music?"

Don't worry. My next post will be utterly foreign, I promise.

Tonight I decided to go "old school" again with the popular Romanian song, Dragostea Din Tei by good ole O-Zone!

I know I said popular, though many of you probably aren't too familiar with it. But let me enlighten you to a little something: you know the beginning to Live Your Life by T.I. ft. Rihanna? Their inspiration came from this right here!

Standing Still by Roman Lob (http://youtu.be/tzMye6AV8BQ)

This song was the winning entry this year for Unser Star für Baku, the German national final to decide their representative for the 2012 +Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This is one of my personal favorites for the contest this year, so wish him luck!

If any of you are like me, you need something to put a little groove and beat into your step. For today, I think this song will do.

Paralyzer by Finger Eleven (http://youtu.be/BJk6gZuPKRE)

This one was released on the Canadian band's 2007 album Them vs. You vs. Me and has a bit of a different, more "groovy" sound than some of their other songs.

On another note, it seems that the band was originally called Rainbow Butt Monkeys. O.o

Being of Filipino-American descent, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Asian culture. Therefore, I am more than obligated to share a song that has Asian roots. So, without further ado...

Here's a song I found not so recently by the Filipino band Hale.
Bahay Kubo (http://youtu.be/J4xwWyppvtA)

Released in July of 2009 on their fourth studio album, Kundiman, it was one of four singles on the album. It is a simple ballad of being with your loved one in a safe place.

Unfortunately, the band broke up in 2010 when the lead singer decided to pursue a solo career. Pretty sad really.

Unfortunately for a few people, I have decided to kick everything off by Rick Rolling you all!! :P

All jokes aside, here's a classic from the year 1987. Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. (http://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)

Featured on his debut album, Whenever You Need Somebody, this song reached #1 status in 25 countries and was the best selling single for that year! And of course, became the basis of the beloved "Rick Roll."

Its a start!

All right! I am starting up a new idea that I've had and have been wanting to do for a while now.

You see, I love roaming around +YouTube and looking up random videos. I'm sure we all agree that this is loads of fun, right? (example: http://youtu.be/Qhm7-LEBznk) But no matter what we end up watching, the majority of the time we usually end up on a music video of some sort. And what do we do when that video is a good one? We share it with our friends, right?

Well that's what I'm here to do. In my rambling among the YouTube world I too have found a lot of music that just sounds great to me. And I want to share that music with all of you. I also encourage everyone that sees these songs to share your own personal favorites for everybody else to see and enjoy, including me.

In the midst of this sharing, I also hope to accomplish another goal, one that I believe the world does not yet have enough of: the broadening of thoughts and ideas. The rise of the Internet has helped this, I agree. However, from what I have seen from my own interactions with people in my state (yes I'm from the U.S.), it just isn't enough. It is my goal to attempt to get whoever happens view this page to want to learn more about other cultures and ideas. And it just so happens that to me, this is through the sharing of music!

So, to whoever happens to stumble across this page, I welcome you to listen to the simple joy of music! And no matter where it is from, I hope you pick up the urge to learn more about this great World we call home! (:
